Code of conduct

Les Chouettes is a Montreal-based group that organizes social, cultural and outdoor activities for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and queer (LGBTQ+) women. Our group provides opportunities for LGBTQ+ women to meet and network in a friendly environment. Activities generally take place in the Greater Montreal area.

Our code of conduct is based on human values, the premise of which is equality. It was created by the Coordination Committee to ensure that the activities of Les Chouettes take place in a safe, non-judgmental and respectful environment.

The respect of the code of conduct is a collective responsibility.

The participants of Les Chouettes are therefore committed to respecting the following principles of the Code of Conduct:

  1. Offer a friendly welcome to all participants and contribute to their integration into the group.
  2. Be responsible of your own person, safety, well-being and your ability to participate in a sport or outdoor activity.
  3. Before registering to an activity, read and accept the registration and cancellation policy :
    1. Register for activities using the registration form on the leschouettes.ca website or Meetup;
    2. Respect its commitment to participate in an activity that requires registration;
    3. Respect your commitment to offer carpooling;
    4. Be punctual and notify the organizer of any delay; the organizer is not required to wait for latecomers so it is preferable to arrive before the meeting time for an activity;
    5. If you are unable to meet your commitment to participate in an activity or to carpool, please notify the organizer of any changes or cancellations as soon as possible;
    6. In the event of the cancellation of an activity that required advance payment, the participant will only be refunded if the refund is authorized by the establishment where the organizer made the reservation or if another participant replaces the participant who cancelled;
    7. Frequent cancellations without valid reasons may result in a participant being denied access to activities requiring registration for a period of time. This does not apply to waiting list registrations or to activities for which registration is permitted but not required;
    8. The organizer may cancel the activity in case of bad weather conditions. The organizer may also cancel the activity for reasons beyond her control, but will try to arrange for a replacement activity if possible to avoid cancellation.
  4. Respect the physical and emotional space of other participants (respect boundaries, do not invade other’s space).
  5. Respecting participants’ journey, coming out process and self-identification (sexual orientation, gender identity, and pronouns) Respecting participants’ confidentiality in this regard.
  6. Be understanding, respectful and open to all participants even if they have different opinions than you.
  7. Support and encourage each other.
  8. Recognize and value diversity.
